From Screens to Scenes: Our Annual Company Hike

by Simon Richards

Our annual hike is back. Last week, we swapped screens for scenes and headed to the Annaloughan Loop in County Louth for a day outdoors together. A route that starts and finishes at a pub felt like particularly good planning.

Time outdoors has always been part of life at RichardsDee. It gives us space to catch up, share stories and enjoy each other’s company beyond the projects and deadlines that fill our working days. Walking together makes room for conversations that don’t always happen around a meeting table.

People outside the business often comment on how much we do as a team. For us, these activities are part of building a place where people enjoy working together. But even with the best intentions, busy diaries can take over, and making time needs a little more commitment than simply meaning to.

As part of our B Corp journey, we renewed our commitment to the annual hike and other team activities. It was a useful reminder to put the things we value into the calendar and give them the time they deserve.

As explorer and author Erling Kagge puts it:

“So much in our lives is fast-paced. Walking is a slow undertaking. It is among the most radical things you can do.”
