Challenge
Energia powers over 250,000 homes and businesses across Ireland. Since 2018 when we became brand partners, the world of energy has changed. In fact, the industry has changed more in the last decade than it had in the previous two.
The global energy market faced unprecedented disruption—from the Covid-19 pandemic to geopolitical tensions such as the war in Ukraine — accelerating volatility, reshaping supply chains and dramatically changing customers expectations. Meanwhile, the transition towards sustainable energy sources has accelerated, with consumers demanding cleaner, smarter, and more flexible energy solutions.
EVs, microgeneration, smart meters, time-of-use tariffs and connected devices have radically reshaped how customers engage with their energy company forcing suppliers to be more agile, dynamic and engaged than ever before.
In this dynamic environment, and in a industry with historically low customer loyalty, shifting sentiment and with customers able to switch providers instantly, Energia must deepen customer engagement, innovate service offerings, and maintain a competitive edge to remain a trusted leader in Ireland’s energy future.

Solution
Over the past seven years, we have partnered with Energia to develop forward-thinking strategic communications. We have written and designed their entire customer lifecycle communications to reflect evolving customer needs over that period, launched targeted campaigns focused on renewable technologies and energy efficiency, and refined their brand architecture to align with emerging markets and sustainability goals.

Implementing the principles of Plain English, Plain Numbers and Universal Design we oversee hundreds of communications reaching over 250,000 customers, making the brand engaging, accessible and ultimately driving retention.
To achieve this we have evolved their distinctive brand assets, keeping their trademark wit and approachableness alongside a touch of cheekiness though bespoke illustration and animation and a distinctly Energia tone of voice.

A smarter home store
To mark a shift and a commitment to the energy transition, Energia launched their Smart Home Store to become a hub for smart products ranging from EV chargers and smart thermostats to smart bulbs and speakers.
We worked with them to develop the identity and communications launching the store to be a beacon of smart tech giving customers everything they need for their energy transition journey.



Rewarding customer loyalty
Garnering loyalty in the energy industry is difficult at the best of times. With customers able to switch providers easily, Energia Rewards is Energia’s loyalty offering, driving loyalty and reducing churn through customer discounts, competitions and renewal offers.
We reimagined the Energia Rewards identity bringing the diverse range of offers and discounts to life through fun and engaging stickers that add a playful touch to communications





Using sponsorship to amplify brand
In 2019 Energia signed a multi-year sponsorship agreement to became the official title sponsor for the All Ireland League, the second highest level after provincial rugby.
We partnered with them to deliver a new identity for the league that encapsulates the energy, passion and excitement of the sport.
Once the identity was in place we developed a specific communications toolkit around their rugby sponsorship


Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia is the biggest Irish language festival in the world. Taking place each March, the global festival promotes the Irish language at home and abroad, reaching over 1 million people on 5 continents.
We worked with Energia and Conradh na Gaeilge to redesign the campaign identity, creating a fun and dynamic system that was rolled out across key touchpoints.
